Jaipur-Ajmer Highway Blast Horror: Chemical Tanker Crashes Into LPG Truck, 200 Cylinders Explode, One Dead, Traffic Paralyzed

Jaipur: A terrifying explosion rocked the Jaipur-Ajmer National Highway on Tuesday night near Dudoo village in Mozamabad tehsil, turning the busy highway into a fiery inferno.

A chemical-laden tanker rammed into a stationary truck loaded with LPG cylinders, triggering a massive blaze and a chain of explosions that lit up the night sky.

Over 200 cylinders exploded one after another, scattering debris up to 500 meters away and sending shockwaves audible as far as 10 kilometers.

200 Gas Cylinders Explode, One Dead, Highway Turns Into Fireball

The accident occurred around 10 PM near Maukampura when a chemical tanker, while attempting to avoid an RTO vehicle, suddenly swerved towards a roadside dhaba and collided head-on with an LPG-loaded truck parked there. The impact caused the tanker’s cabin to catch fire, which quickly spread to the truck. Within moments, the fire reached the cylinders, causing a chain explosion. Eyewitnesses described the scene as “hell on the highway.”

The tanker driver was burnt alive on the spot despite desperate attempts to escape. Five nearby vehicles were also engulfed in flames. A fleet of 12 fire tenders battled the inferno for over three hours before the blaze was brought under control. Traffic in both directions was halted, and the highway was reopened only around 4:30 AM on Wednesday.

Panic on Highway, Cylinders Land 500 Meters Away

Eyewitnesses reported that the explosions were so intense that some cylinders were hurled into nearby fields over half a kilometer away. Out of the 330 cylinders loaded on the truck, more than two-thirds exploded.

Truck driver Shahrukh, who narrowly escaped, said his truck was reduced to ashes within minutes. He claimed the chemical tanker driver panicked on seeing an RTO patrol vehicle and tried to veer off the road, causing the fatal collision.

No Fire Brigade for 2 Hours, Locals Furious

Local residents alleged that for nearly two hours after the collision, no fire tenders or emergency teams reached the site. By the time help arrived, the fire had consumed everything in its path. Authorities have yet to trace three missing persons, including the tanker’s driver and cleaner. Only partial skeletal remains of one truck driver were recovered. Firefighters said that had the chemical tanker exploded, the disaster could have been far deadlier.

Traffic Diversion Adds 15 km, Passengers Stranded

To prevent further casualties, police diverted traffic. Vehicles heading from Ajmer to Jaipur were rerouted via Kishangarh and Roopangarh, increasing the journey distance by nearly 15 kilometers. Traffic from Jaipur to Ajmer was diverted towards Tonk Road through the 200 Feet Bypass.

SMS Hospital on High Alert, ICU Beds Reserved

Following the explosion, Jaipur’s SMS Hospital was placed on high alert. Newly appointed superintendent Mrinal Joshi said emergency teams, including plastic surgeons, were mobilized immediately, and ICU beds were reserved for potential burn victims.

Deputy CM Reaches Site at Midnight, CM Orders Relief

Deputy Chief Minister Dr. Premchand Bairwa rushed to the accident site at midnight to assess the situation. He confirmed that the tanker’s driver and conductor had sustained severe injuries and were hospitalized. Bairwa assured that the fire was now under control and that the administration was continuously monitoring the situation.

Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy and instructed Jaipur Divisional Commissioner Biju George to oversee the relief operation. A green corridor was established to ensure the rapid movement of fire brigades and ambulances. Sharma posted on X (formerly Twitter), calling the incident “extremely tragic” and pledging all possible support to the victims and their families.

Tragically, this is not the first such disaster on this stretch of highway. In December last year, a similar LPG tanker explosion on the Jaipur-Ajmer route claimed 19 lives. Tuesday’s accident has reignited safety concerns over hazardous material transport on Rajasthan’s highways.

Authorities are now investigating whether negligence, speeding, or safety lapses led to this catastrophic chain of events.
