“Maharashtra Revenue Minister Bawankule says BJP–Shiv Sena alliance strong ahead of local body polls; attacks Uddhav Thackeray calling him a “python who swallowed his own party.”
Khabar 24 Express Nagpur, Maharashtra: Maharashtra Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule on Tuesday exuded confidence that the Mahayuti alliance — comprising the BJP, Shiv Sena (Shinde faction), and NCP (Ajit Pawar group) — will remain united and secure a clear majority in the upcoming local body elections across the state.
Speaking to reporters, Bawankule said, “The Mahayuti will definitely happen and we will win the people’s mandate together. We are confident of securing 51% of the total votes.”
The minister brushed aside speculations arising from Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s recent statement about strengthening the BJP independently, clarifying that Shah’s remarks were “about consolidating the party, not breaking the alliance.”
“Amit Shah’s words were taken out of context. His statement should not be misinterpreted — the alliance remains strong and committed to Maharashtra’s development,” Bawankule emphasized.
Welcomes EC’s Move on Voter List Revision
Defending the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) drive to clean and update voter rolls, Bawankule said the initiative had long been demanded by the BJP.
“For nearly two decades, we have urged for transparent and verified voter lists. The BJP even approached the Election Commission and the courts for this. We welcome the nationwide rollout of this reform,” he added.
Sharp Attack on Uddhav Thackeray
Turning his attention to Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray, the former Maharashtra BJP president launched a fiery attack, calling him a “python” who “first swallowed his party, then his Shiv Sainiks, and finally Hindutva.”
Responding to Thackeray’s recent comments calling BJP leaders “petty thieves,” Bawankule countered sharply:
“The entire state knows who the real petty thief is. If he had not indulged in such small-time politics, he could have been a tall leader today. But he chose to remain trapped in his own pettiness.”
Bawankule accused Thackeray of hypocrisy and frustration, saying, “During his tenure as Chief Minister, he did nothing except ensuring that he remained CM and his son was a minister.”
Conclusion:
With his assertive remarks, Chandrashekhar Bawankule sought to reaffirm the Mahayuti’s internal unity while taking direct aim at opposition leader Uddhav Thackeray, setting the tone for an intense political battle ahead of Maharashtra’s local body polls.
