Mandla, Madhya Pradesh — A Shocking Incident
A tragic incident occurred on Saturday, October 25, at Mahindra Resort located near Kanha National Park in Mandla district, where a worker reportedly died during a pest control operation.
The deceased, identified as Tankesh Gautam, was spraying pesticides inside the resort premises when he suddenly collapsed.
He was immediately taken to Mocha Hospital, and later referred to the Bamhni Banjhar Community Health Centre, where doctors declared him dead. Family members allege that Mahindra Resort management refused to take responsibility or provide financial assistance, triggering public outrage.

Protest and Administrative Intervention
Following the incident, angry villagers and family members blocked the main road near the hospital, demanding compensation and justice.
SDM Bichhiya Sonali Dev and SDOP Nainpur Manish Raj arrived at the spot to calm the situation and assured that a fair investigation will be conducted. The body has been kept for post-mortem examination, and the administration has promised legal action based on the findings.
Serious Allegations Against Mahindra Resort
Locals have raised serious safety concerns against Mahindra Resort, claiming that the management failed to ensure proper safety protocols during the pest control process.
Questions are now being asked:
- Was the worker given proper protective gear while handling toxic chemicals?
- Was there any medical supervision or emergency protocol in place?
Though the Mahindra Resort management has not issued any official statement yet, the silence has only deepened public suspicion.
Locals argue that such reputed establishments must take equal responsibility for employee safety as they do for guest comfort.
Mahindra Resort’s Response
On the other hand, late in the evening, an official statement was released by Mahindra Resort.
In its clarification, Mahindra Resort stated that Tankesh Gautam was not their employee. According to the company, Gautam was an employee of Krishna Pest Control, which is their third-party service provider.
The company further mentioned that on the morning of October 25, Mr. Gautam complained of feeling unwell and left the Club Mahindra Kanha Resort premises to go home. Shortly afterward, the resort was informed that Gautam had collapsed a short distance away from the premises.
Although the incident occurred outside the resort premises, the Mahindra team immediately reached the spot and arranged to take him to the hospital. Unfortunately, despite prompt medical assistance, Tankesh Gautam was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital.
The company added that even though he was not a direct employee, the family is being provided with all possible assistance. The situation reportedly calmed down after that.
However, this is where the questions begin…
Even if Tankesh Gautam was an employee of a third-party company, he felt unwell immediately after completing the pest control work at Club Mahindra Kanha Resort and collapsed just a short distance away. Is it not possible that the chemicals used during the pest control affected his health?
Did the resort management ensure proper safety measures during the pest control operation? Are employees’ health conditions monitored after the use of such chemicals?
Since the incident happened right after he finished his work at the resort, it is essential that the entire matter be investigated transparently and scientifically to determine whether the chemical exposure from the pesticides had any impact on Mr. Gautam’s health.
Moreover, another major question arises — why did Mahindra Resort take so long to respond? Why was there no statement from the resort until the family and villagers staged a protest? Does such a big company realize its responsibility only after an incident becomes a headline?
Mahindra management must answer these questions so that the truth comes out and no other worker or family has to suffer such a tragedy in the future.

Demands from Family and Locals
The family and protesters have presented three main demands before the district administration:
- Immediate compensation to the deceased worker’s family.
- Accountability of Mahindra Resort management for safety negligence.
- Strict enforcement of safety measures in all resort operations involving hazardous chemicals.
The authorities have assured a transparent probe and said appropriate legal steps will follow.
Public Reaction and Wider Impact
The death of Tankesh Gautam has sparked anger across Mandla.
Local residents say this tragedy highlights serious lapses in workplace safety and the need for strict monitoring in the tourism sector.
Many have expressed concern that if such incidents occur in high-end resorts, smaller workplaces might be at even greater risk.
Conclusion
The pest control death at Mahindra Resort Mandla has raised tough questions about even third party employee safety and corporate accountability. While protests continue and investigations are underway, the focus now shifts to Mahindra Resort management and district authorities to ensure justice for the deceased and prevent such tragedies in the future.
