Nagpur Dengue Cases Rising in 2025: City Reports Highest Numbers in August

Nagpur is witnessing a sharp rise in dengue cases in 2025, with health officials confirming 12 new cases in August alone—the highest monthly count so far this year. According to civic health data, the city has reported a total of 26 dengue cases and 7 chikungunya cases from January to August.

Dengue Situation in Nagpur

The health department revealed that several residential areas in Nagpur are facing serious larval contamination, mainly due to waterlogging and poor sanitation. Stagnant water in open drains, potholes, and unused containers has become a breeding ground for mosquitoes. Authorities have now intensified fogging and anti-larvae drives in affected localities.

National Surge in Dengue Cases

Nagpur is not alone—other major Indian cities are also reporting a surge in dengue cases in 2025.

  • Lucknow: 58 cases so far this year, with 22 in the last 45 days.
  • Kolkata: Private hospitals report 5–7 patients every week, some with rare gastrointestinal symptoms.
  • Chennai: 522 infections between January and July 8, up from 381 last year.
  • Kerala & Tamil Nadu: Among the worst-hit states, reporting over 6,800 cases and multiple deaths between April and June.

As per official data, India has reported 13,052 dengue cases and 19 deaths nationwide in 2025 till now.

How to Stay Safe from Dengue in Nagpur

Doctors advise Nagpur residents to remain alert during the monsoon season when mosquito breeding is at its peak. Here are some preventive steps:

  • Do not allow water to stagnate in containers, pots, or rooftops.
  • Use mosquito repellents and wear full-sleeved clothing.
  • Install nets on windows and doors to block mosquito entry.
  • Seek immediate medical attention if symptoms like high fever, body pain, or vomiting appear.

Conclusion

With Nagpur recording the highest dengue spike of 2025 in August, health officials are urging citizens to cooperate in anti-larvae campaigns. Experts warn that if preventive measures are not taken, the city could face a much bigger outbreak in the coming months.
