Shocking Attack on Delhi CM Rekha Gupta: Accused Turns Out to Be a Dog Lover from Gujarat

Delhi News: A shocking incident unfolded in Delhi on Wednesday morning when Chief Minister Rekha Gupta was attacked during a public hearing. The attacker was identified as Rajeshbhai Khimjibhai Sakariya, a 41-year-old auto driver from Rajkot, Gujarat, who described himself as a passionate dog lover.

Who Is the Attacker Rajesh Sakariya?

Police investigations revealed that Rajesh had an unusual obsession with dogs. He often fed stray dogs, fought with locals who tried to chase them away, and even became aggressive if anyone hit a dog in self-defense. Reports suggest that Rajesh valued dogs over humans and had even assaulted his own mother in the past.

Rajesh’s mother, Bhanu Ben, told police that her son was extremely disturbed after the Supreme Court’s recent order directing stray dogs to be sent to shelters. She added, “He can attack anyone in anger. He has assaulted me and even his wife. His mental balance is not stable.”

Eyewitnesses said Rajesh was sitting quietly during the hearing. But when his turn came, he suddenly rushed towards CM Rekha Gupta, pulled her hair, and slapped her hard. The sound of the slap was so loud that people sitting at a distance also heard it.

The incident created panic in the hall, and security officials immediately overpowered him.

Criminal Record of Rajesh

What makes the case even more shocking is Rajesh’s criminal background. According to Rajkot police records, between 2017 and 2022, nine cases were registered against him. Most of these were related to drunken brawls, threats, and assaults. On several occasions, he had even been kept under preventive detention.

His anger was not limited to people hurting dogs. At times, he quarreled with neighbors and family members without provocation. For Rajesh, it didn’t matter if a dog bit someone—he would always defend the animal and attack the human instead.

The case has now raised serious concerns:

• Is blind animal love enough to justify violent behavior, even against one’s own mother?
