Sonali Mishra Becomes First Woman Director General of RPF — A Historic Appointment in Indian Railways Security

New Delhi, 12 July 2025 — In a groundbreaking move, the Government of India has appointed senior IPS officer Sonali Mishra as the Director General (DG) of the Railway Protection Force (RPF). With this, Mishra becomes the first woman in Indian history to take charge of the RPF, which is responsible for the security of one of the world’s largest railway networks.

Sonali Mishra is a 1993-batch IPS officer from the Madhya Pradesh cadre and is currently serving as the Additional Director General (Selection) in Madhya Pradesh Police. She will officially assume the role after the retirement of current RPF DG Manoj Yadava on 31st July 2025, and will serve in this position until her superannuation on 31st October 2026.

This appointment was approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, marking a major step in gender inclusivity and representation in India’s central armed police forces.
