Raja Raghuvanshi Murder Case: SP Dismisses Sonam’s Claim of Being Drugged and Kidnapped

Shillong/New Delhi, June 10, 2025 — A major twist has emerged in the sensational murder case of Indore’s Raja Raghuvanshi. The Superintendent of Police of East Khasi Hills (Meghalaya), Vivek Syiem, who is leading the Special Investigation Team (SIT), has outright dismissed Sonam Raghuvanshi’s claim that she was drugged and kidnapped before being found in Ghazipur.

Sonam’s Claim : On Monday morning, Sonam appeared at a roadside eatery near Ghazipur and told police that she had been drugged and had no idea how she ended up there.

SP’s Response : SP Vivek Syiem termed her statement a “fabricated story” and said:

> “She knew Raj Kushwaha (the main accused) was going to be arrested, so she made up this story to portray herself as a victim. In reality, she was actively involved in planning the murder.”

According to the SP, the police have gathered technical and circumstantial evidence against Sonam, including location sharing, continuous communication, and her active role during the murder.

SP further added :

> “It was a poorly thought-out plan. She believed that by claiming to be a victim, she could mislead the investigation—but she failed miserably.”

What’s the backstory?
Raja and Sonam got married on May 11, and left for their honeymoon on May 20. During this trip, Sonam allegedly conspired with her former colleague Raj Kushwaha to eliminate Raja. Police revealed that Sonam had already booked a one-way ticket for herself, planning to return alone.

What happens next?

• Sonam was medically examined in Ghazipur and is currently being kept in a women’s shelter.

• She will be produced before a Shillong court on Wednesday night under transit remand.

• Investigators have strong digital evidence, including call records, chats, and GPS data.

This case has now drawn attention from multiple state police teams, with coordinated efforts between Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Meghalaya authorities.
