Exclusive Story | Report Manish Kumar Ankur | Khabar 24 Express
In 2026, India is proudly calling itself a modern and digital nation. Technology has changed, lifestyles have changed, and the country is rapidly moving forward. But despite all this progress, one painful reality still refuses to disappear daughters in many parts of India are still suffering because of dowry.
The tragic death of 24-year-old Deepika Nagar from Greater Noida has once again shaken the nation and raised serious questions about dowry harassment, domestic violence, and the safety of married women in India.

Deepika Nagar’s Death Leaves Family Devastated
According to reports, Deepika Nagar was married on December 11, 2024, in a grand ceremony arranged by her father Sanjay Nagar. Her family allegedly spent more than ₹1 crore on the wedding and gifted expensive items, including a Scorpio car and household goods, hoping their daughter would live a happy married life.
However, the happiness reportedly did not last long.
Family members have alleged that soon after the marriage, Deepika started facing continuous harassment from her in-laws over dowry demands. The accused family allegedly demanded more money and even a Fortuner car. Deepika was reportedly subjected to mental and physical torture repeatedly.
Her relatives claim that she remained silent because she did not want to burden her parents or bring shame to the family.
Family Alleges Murder, Not Accident
The case took a horrifying turn when Deepika’s family received a phone call claiming that she had fallen from the stairs. But her family strongly rejected this explanation and accused the in-laws of murdering her.
According to allegations made by the family, Deepika was beaten brutally and then thrown from the third floor of the house.
The family also claimed that despite a nearby hospital being available, she was allegedly taken nearly 20 kilometers away for treatment, causing a dangerous delay in medical care.
The heartbreaking incident has triggered anger and outrage on social media, with many people demanding strict action against the accused.
Father’s Emotional Statement Breaks Hearts
Deepika’s father Sanjay Nagar broke down while speaking to the media. In an emotional appeal, he said:
“If they did not want to keep my daughter, they could have sent her back home. They should not have killed her.”
His statement reflects the pain of thousands of Indian parents who fear for their daughters after marriage due to dowry-related abuse and domestic violence.
Accused Family Members Reportedly Absconding
Reports suggest that Deepika’s mother-in-law, two sisters-in-law, and two relatives are currently absconding. Police teams are conducting raids to trace the accused, while mobile phones of the suspects are reportedly switched off.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are expected to take further action based on evidence and statements collected during the probe.
Dowry Deaths Continue to Haunt India
Deepika Nagar’s case is not just one isolated incident. It highlights a much larger social issue that continues to exist despite strict anti-dowry laws in India.
Every year, several women reportedly lose their lives because of dowry harassment, domestic violence, emotional abuse, and greed. In many cases, victims remain silent due to family pressure, social stigma, and fear of damaging their parents emotionally.
The tragedy once again raises painful questions:
- How long will daughters continue to suffer for dowry?
- Why are educated families still demanding money, cars, and luxury gifts after marriage?
- When will society stop treating daughters like financial burdens?
India Needs Social Change Along With Strict Laws
While strict legal action is important, many people believe real change can only happen when society changes its mindset toward daughters and marriage.
A daughter should be respected, not treated as a source of money or material gain.
Deepika Nagar may no longer be alive, but her story has become a painful reminder of the harsh reality many women still face behind closed doors in the name of dowry.
