Pune, Maharashtra: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has broken his silence on the controversial Pune land deal involving his son Parth Pawar. He clarified that the government has already cancelled the disputed transaction and denied any wrongdoing by his family.
Amid rising opposition pressure and demands for his resignation, Ajit Pawar told reporters on Friday that his son Parth and his business partner Digvijay Patil were unaware that the land they were buying in Pune belonged to the government.
Ajit Pawar’s Clarification
Pawar stated that the land in question was indeed government property and therefore could not be sold. “Parth and his partner did not know this fact. How the registration took place and who is responsible — these questions will be answered after the probe,” he said.
The state government has already set up a special inquiry committee headed by Additional Chief Secretary Vikas Kharge, which will submit its report within a month. The land registration has already been cancelled, and all relevant documents have been submitted to the authorities, Pawar confirmed.
No Money Exchanged, No Possession Taken
Ajit Pawar emphasized that no monetary transaction had taken place in the deal. “Neither Parth nor his company has paid any amount to the seller. The land was not taken into possession, so the deal was never completed,” he said.
According to Pawar, “Parth Pawar is a director in the company involved in this proposed deal — Amadia Enterprises LLP. Based on available information, the entire agreement was within the legal framework. However, to maintain transparency, we decided to cancel the sale and withdraw all documents from the registrar’s office.”
FIR Filed Against Three Persons
The Inspector General of Registration lodged a complaint with the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police, leading to an FIR against three persons — Digvijay Patil, Sheetal Tejwani, and sub-registrar R.B. Taru — for alleged fraud and misappropriation.
Sheetal Tejwani is accused of representing around 272 landowners through a power of attorney.
Ajit Pawar distanced himself from the case, saying, “I have nothing to do with this land transaction. The Chief Minister has every right to investigate, and any irregularity will not be tolerated.”
Chief Minister Fadnavis Calls Deal ‘Serious’
According to reports, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis described the deal as “prima facie serious” and directed officials to provide a detailed report.
Industries Minister Uday Samant clarified that his department had no role in waiving the alleged ₹21 crore stamp duty, and said, “All allegations will be answered by Parth Pawar himself. It is important to first verify whether the land actually belonged to the government or another authority.”
What Is the Pune Land Deal Case?
The case involves the sale of 40 acres of Mahar Watan land — property originally belonging to the Scheduled Caste (Mahar) community — located in Pune’s upscale Mundhwa area.
This land was allegedly sold to Amadia Enterprises LLP, a firm linked to Parth Pawar and his partner Digvijay Patil. The transaction, estimated at ₹300 crore, also reportedly involved waiver of ₹21 crore in stamp duty.
Following these revelations, the state government suspended a sub-registrar and ordered a high-level investigation. Three individuals have been named in the FIR, though Parth Pawar’s name is not included.
Ajit Pawar’s Statement on Public Integrity
Pawar said, “In public life, there should be no room for doubt or wrongdoing. Since allegations have been made, I have agreed to cancel the deal in the interest of transparency.”
He also added that he has instructed authorities to take action if any irregularity is found in other transactions involving his relatives. “When children grow up, they do their own business — but I have never asked any officer to give them any benefit,” Pawar said firmly.
Conclusion
The Pune land deal row has become one of Maharashtra’s most high-profile controversies, with the opposition demanding accountability and the government promising transparency.
As the inquiry committee begins its work, all eyes will now be on the report due within a month, which could determine the political and legal fate of the case.
