The Real Reason Behind the Violence in Nepal, It’s Not Just About the Social Media Ban

What is the real reason behind the violence in Nepal? Was it only because of the social media ban? Or are deeper issues like politics, corruption, and youth frustration driving the unrest?

After the government banned social media platforms, violent protests erupted across Nepal. So far, 21 people have lost their lives and hundreds are injured. But is social media really the main cause? Or is it just a trigger for a much deeper problem?

At Khabar 24 Express, we explain the real story behind the Nepal violence.

The Divide Between Leaders and Youth

While Nepal’s political leaders live a life of luxury, their children study abroad and enjoy elite social circles, the majority of young people are struggling. They face unemployment, lack of education, and an uncertain future.

In fact, several videos went viral on social media in Nepal showing the children of leaders and ministers living a life of luxury and comfort. On the other hand, other videos showed children in Nepal starving, unable to access education, and young people leaving the country for India or other nations in search of employment.

This growing inequality created anger among the youth. Many began openly criticizing corruption, job shortages, and government neglect on social media platforms. Their frustration started spreading rapidly.

Social Media Ban – A Band-Aid, Not a Solution

Because of this, anger erupted across Nepal. Young people began protesting. In response, the government imposed a ban on social media. However, this action backfired. The ban only further enraged the youth, and then the firing began…

Police opened fire, resulting in 21 deaths. The deaths pushed the anger of the Nepali people to the seventh sky. Enraged crowds vandalized public property, set roads on fire, and attacked government buildings.

Some leaders took advantage of this situation, especially new and ambitious politicians who wanted to take control of Nepal—and they succeeded. The entire country went up in flames… and with it, Nepal’s peace was destroyed.

The Real Cause – Corruption, Unemployment, and Neglect

The truth is clear – the violence was not simply due to the social media ban. The deeper causes include:

✔ Political negligence and misuse of power
✔ Widespread corruption affecting governance
✔ High unemployment and lack of educational opportunities
✔ Growing inequality between the privileged and the masses

The social media ban was only an excuse; the real fire had been smoldering for years.

Is Banning Social Media the Answer?

This incident raises a critical question – can banning social media solve deep-rooted problems? Or should governments listen to youth voices and address their concerns?
