Supreme Court Attack: Chandrashekhar Bawankule Condemns ‘Cowardly Act’ Inside Temple of Justice

Bawankule said, “Such shameful acts inside the temple of justice will not be tolerated under any circumstances. Every citizen has the right to express their opinion, but violence has no place in our Constitution. The government has taken this incident very seriously and strict action will be taken against the attacker.”

The dramatic incident occurred on Monday during a court hearing, when a lawyer allegedly attempted to throw a shoe at CJI B.R. Gavai. Although the shoe did not reach the bench, security personnel immediately detained the accused. The lawyer also shouted slogans while being escorted out of the courtroom. Despite the chaos, CJI Gavai urged the legal community to continue the proceedings, stating that such acts would not affect the judiciary’s functioning.

Chandrashekhar Bawankule, known for his strong stance on law and order, emphasized that any attempt to disrupt the dignity of the judiciary is an attack on the foundations of democracy. He reiterated that the government stands firmly with the judiciary and will ensure that those responsible face severe consequences.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also reacted strongly to the incident. In a telephonic conversation with CJI Gavai, he condemned the act as “highly disgraceful” and said that there is no place in Indian society for such behavior.
