The political temperature in Bihar is rising fast ahead of the Bihar Assembly Elections 2025. The seat-sharing battle within the NDA alliance has intensified, with Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) chief Chirag Paswan pushing for a significantly bigger share of seats. Instead of the earlier demand of 20 seats, Chirag has now asked the BJP for around 40 constituencies — a move that has triggered fresh tension within the ruling coalition.
According to political insiders, BJP leaders Dharmendra Pradhan and Vinod Tawde failed to make progress in talks with Chirag, forcing Home Minister Amit Shah to personally step in. Shah’s direct involvement has reopened communication channels, but the seat-sharing formula remains the most contentious issue within the NDA.

Chirag Paswan’s Bold Demand Upsets NDA Strategy
Chirag Paswan has once again emerged as a key player in Bihar’s political arena. After significantly damaging Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) performance in the 2020 elections, Chirag is now testing the BJP’s political strategy once again. Unhappy with the current seat-sharing offer, he has made it clear that the LJP will settle for nothing less than a “respectable” share.
Reports suggest that Chirag is adamant about getting around 40 seats, and he is unwilling to compromise on at least five crucial constituencies — Govindganj, Brahmpur, Atri, Mahua, and Simri Bakhtiyarpur.
Amit Shah Steps In as Negotiations Reach Deadlock
Tensions escalated to the point where even senior BJP leaders could not reach Chirag. It was only after Amit Shah’s direct intervention that Paswan’s stance appeared to soften slightly. However, it is now evident that seat-sharing with LJP(R) will be the toughest challenge for the NDA ahead of the 2025 polls.
In the 2020 assembly elections, Chirag’s decision to go solo had spoiled the chances of several NDA candidates. This time, Shah is determined not to let history repeat itself. Keeping Chirag on board is crucial for the BJP, as he wields significant influence over Dalit and youth voters — both key demographics in Bihar’s electoral landscape.
Chirag’s Ambitions Rise Beyond Seat-Sharing
Interestingly, Chirag’s political ambitions now seem to go beyond just seat distribution. Posters across Patna declaring “Next Chief Minister – Chirag Paswan” indicate his growing aspirations. Meanwhile, JD(U) continues to project itself as the “big brother” in the alliance, further complicating BJP’s negotiation strategy.
Although Shah’s intervention has raised hopes for a compromise, convincing Chirag this time is proving to be one of BJP’s toughest political challenges.
As the countdown to the Bihar Assembly Elections 2025 continues, the big question remains: Will Chirag Paswan stay with the NDA, and how will the final seat-sharing equation shape Bihar’s political future?
