
Mandi, Himachal Pradesh | October 4: The vibrant campus of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mandi was filled with energy and enthusiasm as Honourable Lok Sabha MP and former Union Minister for Sports, Youth Affairs, and Information & Broadcasting, Anurag Thakur graced the Kullhad Economy Fest (KEF) as the chief guest. The festival opened with a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony and prayers, creating a serene and spiritual ambiance that perfectly blended with the event’s focus on innovation, learning, and cultural celebration.

During his address, Mr. Thakur praised IIT Mandi’s unique educational and spiritual environment, urging students to make full use of it. He highlighted the importance of engaging not just in academics but also in sports, meditation, and holistic activities that nurture well-rounded growth.
Focusing on India’s rapidly growing startup ecosystem, Thakur noted its impressive rise from just 350 startups to over 1.59 lakh, including 127 unicorns. He also emphasized India’s global leadership in digital payments through platforms like UPI and BHIM, and reiterated the government’s commitment to the “Make in India” initiative. According to him, events like KEF play a crucial role in promoting entrepreneurship, innovation, and self-reliance among youth.

The Union leader further encouraged students to explore branding, marketing, and sustainable development for local Himachali products, handicrafts, and cottage industries, aligning with the “Vocal for Local” campaign. He stressed the need to harness technology to empower villages, enhance industry readiness, and strengthen local economies. His speech also touched upon India’s achievements in space technology, GST reforms, swadeshi manufacturing, and the country’s rich cultural legacy.
Highlighting “Mera Yuva Bharat”, Thakur described it as a transformative platform uniting ideas and cultures across India, motivating the youth to actively contribute to nation-building and India’s growth story.
The event convenor, Prof. Ajay Chaturvedi – known for his acclaimed works “Kala Darsana: Building Blocks of Time” and “Kala Gati: Cosmic Flow of Time and History” – extended heartfelt thanks to Mr. Thakur for his insightful address. IIT Mandi Director, Prof. Laxmidhar Behera, also expressed his gratitude and praised the minister’s vision for youth empowerment.
