By Amar Nayak | Khabar 24 Express | Nayi Soch, Naya Bharat : A shocking revelation has shaken Karnataka’s political landscape a massive vote deletion scam has come to light from Kalaburagi district’s Aland constituency. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the case has found that during the 2023 Assembly elections, a systematic conspiracy was hatched to delete votes from the electoral list.
And here’s the most unbelievable part each deleted vote had a price tag of just ₹80!
The Anatomy of the “Vote Theft”
According to SIT sources, nearly 6,994 applications were submitted to delete names from the voter list in Aland constituency during the 2023 polls.
The investigation revealed that most of these were fake and fabricated entries.
Shockingly, the deleted votes largely belonged to Dalit and minority communities, who are considered Congress supporters.
This area is politically significant as it is the home turf of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, and Congress MLA B.R. Patil had won from here in 2023.
The ₹80 per Vote Deal
The SIT’s findings suggest that a group of individuals was paid ₹80 for every vote deleted. The revelation has sparked outrage, raising serious questions over the sanctity of India’s electoral process.
Has the value of democracy been reduced to just ₹80?
Rahul Gandhi Slams “Democracy Theft”
Congress MLA B.R. Patil and minister Priyank Kharge were the first to raise the alarm. They filed a complaint with the state’s Chief Electoral Officer, after which the matter gained national attention.
Rahul Gandhi, addressing a press conference in Delhi, said:
“This is not just vote theft, it’s a betrayal of democracy itself.”
SIT Crackdown and Major Raids
In response, the Karnataka government formed an SIT under CID Additional DGP B.K. Singh.
The team has questioned over 30 people and identified six key suspects in the case so far.
Raids were conducted at the residences of BJP leader Subash Guttedar, his son Harshanand, and associate Santosh Guttedar, as well as their chartered accountant’s office. During the raids, burnt voter record files were found near Guttedar’s house. He claimed it was “an accidental fire during cleaning.”
What’s at Stake for Democracy?
Congress MLA B.R. Patil alleged that if these 6,994 votes had been deleted, he would have lost the election.
In the 2023 polls, Patil had defeated BJP’s Subash Guttedar by around 10,000 votes.
The SIT investigation currently focuses on Aland, but officials hinted that it may expand to other regions if deeper links are found.
A Wake-Up Call for India’s Democracy
This scandal has triggered a national debate Are voters now victims of data manipulation?
Can democracy survive if votes are traded like commodities?
This isn’t just a Karnataka story it’s a question for every citizen of India.
